Recently DILG Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas has stated that the PNP will be receiving a nationwide “Face-lift” so-to-speak. “The primary purpose of the face-lift is to improve the image of the police organization and bring dignity to its personnel.”
That sounds all nice and dandy. But giving this organization a bunch of brand new buildings, computers, vehicles and God knows what else, is, at the present time, a complete farce.
“Why?” You ask…
Because anyone who has lived in the Philippines. Foreign and/or domestic, knows that their are way too many corrupt officers within their ranks. And it’s not just on the streets. Much of the corruption has elevated itself to many of the administrative arms of this organization. The term “Kutong Cop” has become an all-to-familiar phrase these days. And the officers themselves know it.
Now! This is not to say that nearly every policeman in the country is either bad or corrupt at some level. But sadly, there are an enormous number out there. To fix a problem, one must first accept that there IS a problem. Yet, rather than deal with it. they have decided that giving these people new buildings is the best way to go. Sorry folks. Mr Roxas can spend ALL the money he wants on big, new buildings and what-not. But if those within the officers ranks themselves don’t receive a face-lift first, it will, like most of what this administration has done in the last four years, become just another waste of the taxpayers money, just so they can look good for the cameras… again.
