This entire crass moment of Presidential aspirant, Rodrigo Duterte, has proven to be just another aspect of the lunatic thinking that exists here in the Philippines. Killing people is OK. But insult someone? Woo-Hoo! It’s time to start World War 3.
I wonder if any of the people so up in arms have ever been in a serious pressure situation? I somehow doubt it. If they had, they would know that often in high pressure moments, a bit of levity is a very common response for many people. It is their way of dealing with anger and tension. I know I have used sarcasm or crude wit when stressed.
I know it never appears to be justified later, but when you are in the moment, and it happens, you may of course, regret it later. But no one died because of his words. Am I correct? I just know from experience in pressure situations it happens. But more importantly we should remember the time scale folks. This happened 27 years ago. What mistakes did you make that long ago, and would you like to now be held accountable?
Look at the people around you; they have done far worse in more recent times. Why is there no hue and cry about that? Bus hostages, Yolanda, the SAF 44, and Kidapawan, just to name a few. And those incidents actually got people killed. This recent insult did not kill anyone. Priorities people! Get them right. This is a typical, thin skinned reaction about a few words. But a could not care less response when people die?
What gets me about all this hullabaloo, we have people dying and the response is “we have “sentiments” and say nothing. Yet get into an outrage over a 27 year old insult. Do people here realize just how stupid that makes them look? People dying because of incompetence and mismanagement seems the OK norm here. But 27 year old insults where no one died are not?
Hoping you’ll all wake the hell up soon.
